At first, buying your home and the mortgage process may seem scary. It’s our goal to make this experience as wonderful and easy for you as possible. So where to begin? Start by gathering the documents on our Purchase Checklist, then follow the three steps below. 

Step 1: Prepare

• Visit home and real estate websites (such as Zillow.com) to research the cost of homes in areas where you want to live. It will give you an idea of the cost of they type of house you're looking for. Use this info to play with our purchase calculators to get an idea of your monthly payment.
• Get your savings ready. You’ll need at least 3 months of payments, called "reserves" saved up in addition to your down payment, before applying.
• Look over mortgage rates to see the type, term and rate that are best for your budget.
• Gather all the documents needed to apply.

Step 2: Apply

Now that you've gathered what you need, it’s time to take the plunge! Feeling confident? Apply for a mortgage online. Need guidance through the application process?  Call or email Sun Federal to schedule time with a loan officer at any of our branches. We’re ready to help you through it all!

Once your application is submitted, there will be underwriting of the property and your loan application information. With this step, you’ll also find out if there is any information or additional documentation needed.

Step 3: Closing

"Closing" refers to that glorious day when the property becomes yours. It’s the process where ownership is transferred from one person to another. You’re ready to sign the loan documents, send them to escrow, and start packing!
