Sun Federal to Open New Location in Downtown Toledo

A new Sun Federal Credit Union location is coming to downtown Toledo this summer, made possible by the credit union’s long-standing relationship with Mercy Health.

Since 2004, Sun Federal and Mercy Health have worked together, driven by a shared focus on improving the wellness of the communities they serve. Located on the Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center campus, the new location will utilize an existing building offered to Sun Federal through a community benefit lease.

“Mercy Health is one of our largest sponsor groups, and our teams have formed many meaningful connections through serving their associates over the last two decades,” said Sun Federal President/CEO Brian Kelbley. “We’re very proud of this opportunity, and the community benefit lease we’ve signed with Mercy Health demonstrates the value they see in expanding the availability of financial services in the downtown area.”

The new location will be full service, offering access to savings and checking accounts, loans, and other financial products, as well as in-branch financial counseling and drive-thru lanes with 24/7 ATM access.

“We know financial strain is linked to chronic stress, which can contribute to conditions like high blood pressure, weakened immunity and sleep problems. Access to trusted financial services and education plays an important role in improving the overall health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Matt Sapara, Vice President, Business Development and Advocacy, Mercy Health – Toledo. “The new Sun Federal location expands access to vital financial services in downtown Toledo.”

For decades, Mercy Health has invested in the Cherry St. Corridor through neighborhood revitalization, safety initiatives and community-based programs that address the social factors influencing health. Promoting financial stability is a critical part of that work, as it can improve physical health by reducing stress and make it easier to afford nutritious food, housing, and other basic needs. The Cherry St. Corridor’s Getting Healthy Zone (GHZ), a community-driven initiative focused on creating a community where people want to live, work and visit, established the Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) to advance financial literacy and economic mobility. The FOC offers individualized coaching and has helped participants increase income, build net worth, and improve credit scores.

Details regarding the location’s grand opening will be provided via Sun Federal’s website and social media channels in the near future.
