The Share Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of professional accounting duties with the principal areas of responsibilities being Credit Union share accounts, cash accounts, and monthly general ledger duties and analysis. This position also acts as a resource for managers and the Credit Union.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Must effectively carry out the following essential duties and responsibilities of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates Sun Federal’s mission, values and culture. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Member Share Accounting
    1. Prepares reports depicting share growth by branch and share category on a daily and monthly basis, and movement of shares between certificate and core deposit types.
    2. Conducts research and produces biweekly comparison analysis of certificate pricing of various financial institutions in the Toledo and Philadelphia markets.
    3. Prepares the Excess Share Insurance calculation on a monthly basis.
  2. Cash Account Reconciliation
    1. Verifies and processes the Corporate One billing making the appropriate general ledger adjustments.
    2. Monitors cash letter adjustments.
    3. Researches savings bonds, ACH funds that are credited or debited to the cash accounts and other miscellaneous activity.
  3. Morning Report
    1. Uploads the daily core activity report into the Finance software to capture Credit Union financial activity from the prior day.
    2. Produces the Morning Report for distribution to management team daily. This report reflects the Credit Union’s total cash position, share and loan activity from the prior day and the resulting balance status for each branch and the Credit Union total.
    3. Reconciles daily activity General Ledgers to verify and address discrepancies in a timely manner.
  4. Shared Branching
    1. Balances and accounts for other Credit Union’s member transactions occurring in our offices and our member transactions occurring in other Credit Union offices across the national network every business day.
    2. Processes adjustments to member accounts as needed.
  5. General Accounting Duties
    1. Completes assigned monthly GL reconcilements, variance reporting, month-end financial reports, and annual account budgeting.
    2. Prepares account entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Documents financial transactions by entering account information. Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
    3. Conducts meetings with assigned Managers and/or Directors in a timely manner.
    4. Backs up daily functions of other staff when they are not in the office.

Qualification Requirements

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Required Knowledge: Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and procedures including account reconciliation. Knowledge of related computer applications.

Experience Required: One to three years of accounting experience preferred.

Physical Activities And Requirements

Finger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.

Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Repetitive Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally (Almost all office jobs).

Working Conditions: No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. (Such as in a typical office.)

Mental Activities And Requirements

Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions.

Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percepts, and to draw and interpret graphs.

Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of books, magazines and instruction manuals. Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling and grammar. Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct punctuation (or sign equivalent) and variation in word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses.
