A History of Community Investment – Announcing Our New Cherry Street Branch

In 1951, Sun Federal was founded with an act of community investment: when our founders pooled their funds together to help their fellow refinery worker build a front porch for their family home after they were denied a bank loan, they did so because they could see how much achieving that dream meant to their colleague. They decided to help because they felt finances shouldn’t just be about numbers—more than anything, it should be about helping people succeed.

That act of service began a commitment to improving the lives of hardworking people that has positively impacted tens of thousands of members over the last 75 years. What originally started in a basement refinery office grew from a single branch location to our current network of ten branches across Ohio and Pennsylvania, and we’re incredibly proud to announce the opening of our newest location at 2464 Cherry Street in Toledo, Ohio.

This new branch is made possible by Sun Federal’s long-standing relationship with Mercy Health, and will improve access to beneficial financial products, services, and education within Toledo’s Cherry Street Corridor and downtown areas. Located on the Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center campus, this branch will utilize an existing building offered to Sun Federal through a community benefit lease.

Once opened, our Cherry Street location will fill a previous gap in our branch network’s coverage of greater Toledo, ensuring that you’re never far from a friendly face and personal, professional service, no matter where you are around town. As a full-service branch, members will have access to savings and checking accounts, loans, and other financial products, as well as in-branch financial counseling and drive-thru lanes with 24/7 ATM access.

Our Grand Opening is scheduled for 10:00 AM, November 9, 2026, and will include the official ribbon cutting with the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce. Our members and the public are welcome, and we hope to see you there!
